It’s your birthday!

Dear BabyBird,

It’s your birthday today! I can’t believe it’s been a year and what a wonderful change you’ve brought to our lives. Today was a busy day for all of us: I got to drop you off at school, had a crazy day of moving over to our new office at work in Boulder with ridiculous gusty wind, and we still had time for dinner, cupcakes, and a present before bedtime at home.

Thinking back on the last year I can’t believe how much our lives have changed becoming parents. Our entire daily routine is different, we’ll do anything to spend the whole weekend with you, and it’s completely re-invented what I consider a fun and fulfilling day. Plus I’ve really become a pro at multitasking and teaming up with mommy to get more cleaning and preparation done in 15 minutes here or there than you can possibly imagine. Every day is too short but the time we get playing in the morning, having dinner as a family, and playing piano, reading a story, toys or games, and finally bath mean everything to me and get me through the week until the weekend.

I’m so amazed at how fast you’re growing and changing and indescribably proud every time you learn something new. It seems like yesterday you were just starting to roll over and crawl, and then pureed food, finger foods, sitting up and the first signs of walking overtook us in a whirlwind with something new every week! You love music so much and are always bopping to the beat as we sing or listen to music (and sometimes to the beat in your head!), and are a total magnet for the camera. You’ve had your share of colds and a couple ear infections but are always in good spirits, and we’re especially glad you’ve been such a good sleeper for the last couple months: usually 7am to 7pm like clockwork, but lately bedtime has been moving back a bit and we’re getting the occasional morning snooze until 7:30 or 8 which is great!

I’m really excited for you to start walking completely on your own any day now and be able to do more fun stuff with us outside as it gets warmer in the Spring. You are such a little adventurer with boxes and cabinets and always let us know with a cheerful “uh oh” when there’s a problem (often of your making!) and I know it’s going to be crazy, but fun, once you’re walking. I also can’t wait for you to start talking (more than mama, dada, and baba anyway) and think it’s going to be such a thrill to have real conversations, even though they’ll be silly for awhile. It’s really cool how in sync our family is already just from nonverbal cues and figuring this out together over the last year and I can’t wait for the next part.

We love you so much! Being a great Dad – your Dad – is the best and most important thing in my life. Thank you for making it so much fun!

Love,
Daddy

Baby Boy, you are ONE!

A year ago today, you came into this world and completely changed mine. I am so grateful to be your momma, and so blessed to have you in our lives. I have never known a love like this and how I can unconditionally love you from the moment our eyes first met and I held you in my arms.

I love you to the moon and back.

Happy 1st Birthday!

Just one second…

Mommy is going to put these dishes away and clean up the kitchen real quick, and then we will head upstairs for your nap.

Oh dear, I’m sorry bud. I promise I’ll tuck you into bed for your nap, once I stop giggling and taking your picture.
