Not feeling good

On Sunday we noticed that BabyBird wasn’t being himself and was running a low fever. By the evening, he was fussy and just plain miserable. Started out with a running nose and then developed a poor hacking cough and just could not get comfortable at all. He is usually a great sleeper at night, but Sunday night he was up every hour and was just restless. Inbetween one of the wakes, I rushed to get ready for bed and got everything I needed for the night. Poor baby just wanted to snuggle and sleep on my chest, so that’s what we did, or rather tried doing. I setup my side of the bed with pillows in preparation for me to sit up so he could lay on my chest and be elevated, I think that helped with his cough and running nose, but he just couldn’t get comfortable enough to fall asleep so he wiggled and tossed and turned from midnight to about 2am. One stretch in there we co-slept for about 45 minutes with him laying next to me in my arms. Throughout the night, we moved from between my bed to the rocking chair to his crib and back and forth. By the morning, we were both exhausted. I called the doctor’s office and we booked an appointment on Monday, and after a few simple tests and listening to his chest, the doctor and the PA in training, said that he had the croup. I was expecting an ear infection, since he gets them so easily, but unfortunately it was something else this time. He was coughing all night long, which sounded like a wet seal/barking dog.

Snoozing in my arms

Tuesday we hanged around the house and he was just the biggest cuddle bunny and did not want to play or be set down.

Towards the afternoon, he seemed to be getting better and his spirits were up. It was in the late afternoon and about time for his 2nd nap, so we went upstairs and got the room ready and sat and rocked with a warm bottle. He seemed drowsy so I laid him down and left the room. Not a peep and about 25 minutes later, I went back in to check on him and to tuck him in, totally expecting to find a sleeping baby, but when I walked into his nursery, I was surprised to find a happy guy just sitting in his crib playing with his blanket and pulling his socks off. Little guy was just sitting there playing soo quietly for 25 minutes by himself and just content. Once he saw me, he raised his arms up and wanted to be picked up and held.

::knock on wood:: so far, he has been snoozing away for the last 2 hours without any wakes, so I hope he gets some sleep tonight which translates into some sleep for this momma.

Woke up to a cold day. A high of 30. Brr. Heard BabyBird start to stir before he fully awoke at 7:45am this morning (thank you for sleeping in today!) and went in to his nursery and peeped over his crib rails to find him just laying and playing with the sock monkeys in his crib, and to the delight and surprise of seeing mommy watching him from above, I got the best surprised squeak of joy.

Hanged out in our room in your warm fleece jammies.

Look at that face! My poor attempt at setting him down so I could get up and out of my jammies. But with those eyes, it did not happen. So downstairs we went for your usual breakfast of apple/banana/pear puree mixed with oatmeal. Daddy came downstairs to say bye before heading off to work. We hanged out downstairs and played, had a bottle and took your morning nap. I took this opportunity for a quick snooze myself.

But Mommmmma!

After lunch, we did a quick trip to Target for baby supplies and picked up a baby gift. One of Daddy’s co-workers just had her 2nd baby boy, and I had fun going through the newborn section of Target. So itty bitty clothes.

BabyBird cracked me up at Target. You just sat there looking in one direction and then the other as I pushed the cart around. For some reason, Target you don’t mind. I did let you play with a toy when we were in the baby section, but other than that you were on the best behavior. And you just enjoy sitting there looking at everything.

Looking around

Are we done shopping yet?

On our way home, I debated between going to the grocery store or our the rect center, and decided at the last minute to head to the rect center instead. They have a nice indoor play area all padded with a little section for toddlers. We went in and you knew exactly what to do since we were there last weekend. We met another sweet baby girl who was 2 years old and you just absolutely adored her. BabyBird was babbling and following her around the place and just wanted to play with her. It was sweet watching you interact with her from a distance. Other than helping ::ahem… more like catching you as you try to hurl yourself down the slide head first:: from time to time, I let you crawl around on your own.

Oh hai!

Came home, had a bottle and you were tired and took a nap. I cleaned up, Daddy came home with dinner, playtime, bath and bedtime.

Best Part of Momma’s Day: The surprised and happy look on your face when I came in to your nursery this morning.

Best Part of Daddy’s Day: Watching you do a headstand into the storage ottoman in your playroom.

First Library Trip

We ventured out on a windy Sunday afternoon to our neighborhood library. I’ve only been there once before a few years ago to check it out when it first opened and I was impressed to see all the new technology on how to check out. Now the books have RFID tags inside and you just simple set a whole stack at once and it will register what books you are checking out. Amazing! Such an improvement to the old days of card slots and scanning each book in.

Hanging out at the library

It was a pretty quiet day since it was in the late afternoon, the children’s area was great and had low book bins to browse for books. BabyBird was very excited and was the most vocal about his excitement that I have ever heard out in public. But maybe because it was so quiet that we heard you, but it cracked us up that you were making so much noise in the library.

Checking out the toys

We headed over to a donut looking table with puzzles and toys. It was too cute watching you play and crawl in and out of the area.

We walked around and checked out the special bookshelf for just board books.

Climbing the bookshelf

We borrowed Llama Llama Mad at Mama, and the original Curious George along with a few other simple board books.

11 Months Old

You are 11 months old today.

:: You love peas, they are you favorite finger food right now. You also eat mac & cheese, corn, black beans, and puffs.

Eating a cracker

:: Super fast crawler and love to play “fetch” with yourself, as you throw one of your balls and then crawl after it.

:: This month you have been a great sleeper. Like clock work, Daddy gives you a bath each night, followed by lotion and PJs, and I come in with a warm bottle we rock and cuddle as you drink your milk. A quick burp and some snuggles, a kiss goodnight, and I turn off the light. Then I lay you down, most of the time still awake in your crib and hand you Monkey and you fall asleep on your own and sleep through the night. You wake up consistently at 7am on the dot every morning.

:: You take a morning nap around 10:30am, and another one around 3:30pm. Each for about an hour.

Little Peanut

:: Go to bed around 7:30pm each night, and wake up promptly at 7am.

:: Very ticklish on your legs and the bottom of your feet.

:: Wearing 12-16 month shirts, and pants. You outgrew your Christmas outfit in 3 weeks. Wearing a size large sleep sack. But still in size 3 diapers.

:: Still using your infant aka “bucket” car seat but I think you will be outgrowing that very soon and will be getting you a toddler car seat.

:: Very expressive and you love to laugh.

:: No fear of anything. Crawling on the very edge of the bed, no problem!

:: You can climb up the stairs with assistance/personal catcher.

:: We are starting to see a lot more personality and a little temper here and there.

:: Slow fall, when you are sitting and then you slowly fall backwards when you see that I am watching and nearby. Naturally of course momma runs and catches you just before your head hits the floor.

:: Resist highchair/chair seat. Arched back. Stiff legs that don’t bend. Yup, you’ve mastered this one.

:: You have one crooked bottom tooth.

Happy 11th months old my sweet boy, I can’t believe that you will be 1 year old in just a few weeks. The time has moved faster than I would like and I am so proud of you every single day.
